Whinstone
Whinstone was formed during the Carboniferous period and made mostly of Plagioclase Feldspar and Clinopyroxene along with smaller amounts of other minerals such as Biotite.
This stone is quarried throughout central Scotland and is a classified as a Gabbro-Dolerite. It has been used extensively throughout the British Isles for hundreds of years for paving, kerbs and setts and is today used on exclusive projects where stone heritage is a key factor, such as Rosslyn Chapel and St. Andrews Cathedral, Glasgow.
